Yep, caring for your body is always top of my list… & that’s why I’ve been involved in holistic bodywork for over 40 years & watched trends come & go, both in exercise & in massage!
Back in the day, I was running ‘exercise’ classes & gradually adding in awareness elements through my exposure to the Alexander Technique & then Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement classes. There had always been a lot of touch & coaching in my exercise sessions, so the step into massage was a logical one.& gave a lovely combination for my clients. It was after my son was born that I dropped the exercise side, with some sadness, as continuing training was too expensive & time consuming (I was a single parent).
I kept ‘fit’ through this career change, having deliberately decided to drop out of what I saw as a very toxic atmosphere that existed in the ‘professional’ offices I’d been working in for 12+ years. It hasn’t been a ‘lucky’ choice, it’s been a ridiculously hard one, financially reckless, but probably saved me from a totally medicated life, one way or another, not least through simply loving it!
