Checking in during a very odd time…

This used to be a place where I could cover the topics that I would when actually seeing clients – ie the ‘add on’ to the actual bodywork, where, often, the changes really took place! As I’ve referred to before, it’s often lifestyle aspects that cause problems for our body, sometimes food related, sometimes exercise related (or lack of!), sometimes work, even partner or thinking related…

For me, assisting change through massage & conversation made my work different & rewarding – on both sides. Some clients were immediately responsive, some took a while, but were often converted when changes I advocated made a huge physical difference, even though they might seem more emotionally based at first.

During this Covid ‘episode’, where I have been unable to see many clients (either for official risk reasons, or because they have been extremely cautious), the conversations I have had with friends & clients have been tainted by all sorts of (often incorrect/inaccurate) assumptions about my view of health & wellbeing, self awareness/knowledge, immunity & vaccines…

I am deeply saddened that the decades I have spent studying, exploring & living in a dynamic way to support & take responsibility for my own health & wellbeing are now misunderstood & sometimes invalidated. I have never suggested people should follow everything I do, nor that they can, nor that the impact would necessarily be the same – I’ve been doing this for 35+ years… but, I am sad at the inability to even ‘listen’, to ‘hear’ a more empowered view. A view that encourages us to check in & trust that we do know, somewhere deep inside, how to look after ourselves. That’s always been the part I wanted to nurture in each client through my sessions with them.

Now, it no longer seems ‘safe’ to offer any such view, as it is interpreted very differently. This is a tough time for many, do we really have to further disconnect from each other AND ourselves in order to get through it… I believe ‘checking in’ with ourselves & respecting what we find, is the best route towards overall wellbeing… I want to support you that if that’s your plan…
